Join Teaching Matters on October 26th to Celebrate the Significant Academic Success of our Students

Teaching Matters is New York City’s foremost professional learning organization for K-12 educators. In nearly 30 years, they have served over 38,000 teachers and 672,000 students, the majority of whom are Latino and children of color. The event will celebrate these students’ significant academic successes – 82% of kids participating in their early literacy programs have moved from non-reader to reader this year.

Program Details:

Dedicated to: Amelia Junquera, Founding Member of Teaching Matters' Chairman's Council. Amelia has attended nearly every Teaching Matters school visit and has a deep understanding of our early reading programs, as well as a knowledge of the challenges and joys of teaching in the nation's most complex public school system. She has been a tremendous advocate and supporter for well over a decade.

Keynote Speaker: Morgan Radford, NBC News Correspondent and NBC News NOW Anchor. Ms. Radford’s reporting appears across TODAY, NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt and MSNBC, in addition to her co-anchoring the 11 am-1pm hours of NBC News NOW. Since joining NBC News in 2015, Radford has covered some of the country’s biggest stories including the 2020 presidential election, the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on minority communities, the rise in disinformation online, and the immigration debate over the U.S. southern border.

Special Guest: David C. Banks, Chancellor of the NYC Department of Education. Appointed on January 1, 2022, he is the former President and CEO of the Eagle Academy Foundation, and the founding principal of The Eagle Academy for Young Men. David is a proud graduate of New York City public schools, attending P.S. 161 in Brooklyn and Hillcrest High School in Queens. David’s vision of education emphasizes a partnership between schools and communities based on the guiding principles of academic excellence, leadership, and character development.

Nationally recognized, Teaching Matters' mission is to close the opportunity gap of a radically unequal education system for under-served and historically marginalized children.
