My proudest moment as a teacher was watching my first class of students walk across the stage at their graduation. Having taught these students for two years, I had an inside look into the barriers many of them faced to make it to that point. I was constantly awed by their perseverance and resilience in the face of adversity. My two years as a high school teacher opened my eyes to the extreme inequities in our education system. For this reason, I am honored to run the New York Marathon with the charity Teaching Matters.
Teaching Matters is dedicated to increasing teacher effectiveness and closing the opportunity gap of a radically unequal education system. Their mission is to ensure that all children, especially those from under-served and historically marginalized communities, have equitable access to excellent teaching, regardless of zip code.
