Hello,

This November, I'm running in the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon on behalf of Teaching Matters, a nonprofit dedicated to increasing teacher effectiveness and closing the opportunity gap of a radically unequal education system.

Over and over, studies show that excellent teaching is the single most important school-related factor for student success. Teaching Matters partners with public schools to provide educators the tools and support they need to deepen their expertise of instructional content and strengthen teacher practice, thereby increasing outcomes for all students, from Pre-K to high school.

Teaching Matters offers programs in literacy and math that are built upon proven, scientific, data-driven methods. Just a few examples of their results include:

• 83% of students who participated in their Foundational Literacy Matters program progressed from "pre-readers" to "readers" in just 10 weeks
• 70% of students who receive their Math Matters program show substantial grade-level gains

I'm thrilled to be making my miles meaningful and supporting local public school students as I complete my 26.2 miles through New York City on November 3rd.
