For as long as I can recall, I have always loved school and sports.
I really enjoy learning and remember even looking forward to school everyday as a kid. As I got older, that zest for knowledge only grew as I got to narrow my coursework more towards the classes I found most fulfilling and my interests. But alongside my joy for acquiring new information, at my core I have always been a competitive athlete as well. From starting dance classes at three years old, to joining soccer at four, to swim team around eight, and lacrosse at twelve, my childhood was spent at school all day and rushing to a practice or a game after and on the weekends, and I loved every second of it.
Now, as I have left Division I lacrosse behind and embark on my career as an attorney, I have found myself missing the classroom and the field.
This is why I have not only decided to run the NYC Marathon, but to run it with Teaching Matters, and raise money for an incredible cause! Teaching Matters is dedicated to increasing teacher effectiveness and closing the opportunity gap of a radically unequal education system. Help us ensure that all children, especially those from under-served and historically marginalized communities, have equitable access to excellent teaching, regardless of zip code.
Having the privilege of a worthwhile education has been a fundamental force in shaping who I am. Without access to my former teachers and classrooms, I would not have become the attorney, athlete, sister, friend, or individual I am proud to be. I owe everything I am, and have, to my education.
