Supporting Educators, One Mile at a Time

This November, I'm running the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon on behalf of Teaching Matters, a nonprofit that partners with schools and districts to increase teacher effectiveness and close the opportunity gap of a radically unequal education system.

Over and over, studies show that excellent teaching is the single most important school-related factor for student success. Teaching Matters provides educators the tools and support they need to deepen their expertise of instructional content and strengthen teacher practice, thereby increasing outcomes for all students from Pre-K to high school.

Teaching Matters offers programs in literacy and math that are built upon proven, scientific, data-driven methods. A few examples of their results include:

• 83% of students who participate in their Foundational Literacy Matters program progress from "pre-readers" to "readers" in just 10 weeks
• 70% of students who receive their Math Matters program meet their annual growth goal
