Teaching Matters- Fundraising for NYC Public School Students
Growing up as a first-generation student from a Latino background, education was always more than just school- it was a pathway to opportunity, a way to make my family proud, and a belief that I could achieve anything I set my mind to. Teaching was never part of my original plan, but what began as an unexpected path has become my purpose, ten years later, I remain deeply committed to serving in a socioeconomically challenged community, working every day to help my students believe that their dreams are within reach. Along the way, I've witnessed firsthand the deep inequities that too often leave students feeling unseen, unheard, and limited by circumstances beyond their control. I know that feeling, because I once experienced that same doubt myself.
That's why organizations like Teaching Matters are so critical. Their work to increase teacher effectiveness and close the opportunity gap directly impacts students like mine, ensuring they have access to the rigorous, equitable education they deserve. Every donation helps us move closer to a system where a child's zip code does not determine their future. As an educator, this mission is especially meaningful to me. Teaching Matters works directly with schools and educators through literacy and math coaching, curriculum implementation, and other initiatives designed to strengthen teaching and improve outcomes for students. Their impact is huge: during the 2025β2026 school year, Teaching Matters worked across 529 schools, coached more than 7,400 teachers, and reached over 222,000 students.
By supporting this fundraiser, you are not just giving-you are investing in students, in equity, and in the belief that every child deserves the chance to succeed. This is why I am proud to be part of the Teaching Matters team running the NYC Marathon this November and I would be incredibly grateful for your support. No donation is too smallβevery contribution brings me closer to my fundraising goal and helps Teaching Matters continue this important work. Thank you!!
